HHS Report Ignores Increase in Total Health Care Costs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a report today touting alleged savings from the new health care law while ignoring the increase in total health care costs and insurance premiums.

“This report is an election-year gimmick that ignores the true total cost increases of the new health care law,” said Senator Enzi.  “In fact, a new study put out today by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that family health care premiums have already risen four percent this year. This increase is more than twice the rate of inflation.  What this administration does not want people to know is that the new mandates contained in the health care law are significantly increasing the cost of insurance, which will make it harder for many Americans to purchase affordable coverage.  Despite claims to the contrary, it is clear that the new health care law will increase insurance costs for all Americans.”
