Harkin Applauds HHS Contraception Draft Rule
Rule Advances Implementation of Prevention Measures in ACA
Friday, February 01, 2013
WASHINGTON—Today, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee - and author of the prevention title of the Affordable Care Act - released the following statement on the Administration’s proposed rule on contraceptive cost sharing for religious organizations:
“I am pleased to see the Administration moving forward on efforts to help women get the preventive care they need and deserve, with no out-of-pocket costs. The prevention measures I pushed for in the Affordable Care Act are crucial to American families. Providing women access to contraception and other preventive care empowers them to make their own health care decisions. I believe that today’s announcement strikes the right balance; providing women with access to contraceptive coverage while respecting the concerns of religious organizations. I look forward to continuing to work with the Administration to ensure that Americans can benefit from all of the prevention and wellness provisions in the Affordable Care Act.”
