Alexander Statement on NLRB General Counsel’s “Joint Employer” Complaints Against McDonald’s

WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 19 – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) made the following statement on the complaints filed today by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) general counsel, which hold McDonald’s brand corporation liable as a “joint employer”:

“The NLRB general counsel’s complaints today—hounding a separate brand corporation for actions of a local franchisee—go against three decades of precedent and plain old common sense and completely redefine what it means to be an employer in this country. If the board continues down this path, they could destroy the dream of small-business ownership for the more than 770,000 Americans who own a franchise, and I look forward to introducing legislation next Congress to address this absurd action from the board.”
