Alexander: Senate to Confirm Two Important Labor Nominees This Week

WASHINGTON, April 9, 2018 — United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today said the Senate this week is set to confirm two important labor nominees—John Ring to serve as a member of the National Labor Relations Board and Patrick Pizzella to serve as Deputy Secretary of Labor:

“America’s workers will benefit from Patrick Pizzella at the Labor Department and Mr. Ring at the National Labor Relations Board. Mr Ring is a well-qualified nominee to serve on the labor board – he has represented management and worked for a labor union. Mr. Pizzella has valuable experience as the current Acting Chair of the Federal Labor Relations Authority and a former Assistant Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush. America’s workers deserve a fully staffed Labor Department and it is unacceptable that Senate Democrats have delayed Mr. Pizzella’s consideration by the full Senate.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell filed cloture on both nominees on March 22.

As Chairman of the Senate’s labor committee, Alexander chaired a hearing on Mr. Ring’s nomination on March 1, 2018 and a hearing on Mr. Pizzella’s nomination on July 13, 2017.
