ENZI LAYS OUT CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM, SAYS REFORM LEGISLATION NEEDS BIPARTISAN SUPPORT

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the SenateHealth, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today outlined conservativeprinciples for health care reform and said he would work to include those principles as Congress drafts bipartisan reform legislation.

Speaking to The Heritage Foundation’s Conservative Principles of Health Care Reform:The Road Ahead, Enzi reaffirmed his commitment to working in a bipartisan fashion on healthcare reform saying, “Let me be clear – I want to support a bipartisan health care reform bill. Ialso believe that it is possible to get broad bipartisan support behind such a bill. Republicans,Democrats, Independents, higher incomes, lower incomes – it doesn’t matter – we all worryabout health care and if we are committed to finding real solutions then we will find some that we can agree on.

“There never has been a bill with as many moving parts that affect as many people. Toget a workable solution it will require the effort of every Member of the Senate,” Enzi said.“With my 80 percent rule, I focus on the possible and work on principles of common ground. Iam working hard with the Chairmen and Ranking Members and other key Members of therelevant committees to see what we can achieve.”
