ENZI: SENATE MUST ENACT BROAD-RANGING HIGHER EDUCATION ACT RENEWAL

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the followingstatement in response to the House’s vote on student loan interest rates:"While I’m pleased that the House is focused on the issue of affordability and access to higher education for working families, we need to do more than simply cut rates on loans and pass the bill on to the taxpayers. “A comprehensive approach to reauthorizing the higher education act is a must, as opposed to the piecemeal approach taken by the House today. There are many more provisions of the Higher Education Act that will ensure that more students are able to enter and complete college so that they have the knowledge and skills to be successful in the 21st century economy. As part of this comprehensive approach to expanding access to college education, the Senate must focus not only on the cost of money, but also the cost of college." ####
