KENNEDY ON RELEASE OF EMERGENCY LIHEAP FUNDS

Washington, D.C.—Today, The Bush Administration released one billion dollars in emergency LIHEAP funds for home heating assistance for low-income families. Massachusetts will receive approximately 31 million dollars in assistance. Senator Kennedy has urged President Bush and the Republican Congress to release these vital funds for Massachusetts families. Senator Kennedy said, “It’s welcome news that President Bush is releasing additional assistance for low-income families facing exorbitant heating costs this winter. It’s unfortunate they’ve had to wait until spring to see this assistance, but I’m hopeful this is the beginning of a new commitment to our most vulnerable citizens in coming years.” -30-
