What Will Dodd-Kennedy Health Bill Cost? Nobody Knows! Enzi Pushes Back on Democrats’ Attempt to Act on Bill without Cost Estimates

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today continued his push back against Senate Democrats’ efforts to force action on the controversial Dodd-Kennedy health care bill before even receiving cost estimates from the Congressional Budget Office.

“No one really has any idea what this bill will cost,” said Enzi, the Senate’s sole accountant. “How can we have an open and honest debate without knowing what the Kennedy- Dodd bill will cost? Republicans think it is irresponsible to proceed with this bill without cost estimates.”

Democrats introduced their health care reform bill on Tuesday. The bill includes billions in new wasteful spending, but has no provisions to offset its massive costs for taxpayers. Enzi has expressed serious concerns that the bill will lead millions of Americans to lose their health insurance and force them onto a government-rationed plan.

“This bill drive up health care costs, create new taxes for businesses and individuals, and lead to a government takeover of health care, where Washington bureaucrats ration care,” Enzi said. “The Kennedy-Dodd bill will not allow Americans who like the care they have to keep it. We need to slow down and look at all the options.”
