KENNEDY ON CAP REPORT ON THE POLITICIZATION OF THE LABOR DEPARTMENT

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, the Center for American Progress issued a reporting revealing the political agenda of the Department of Labor’s subdivision that oversees labor union financial reporting. The report also documents how the Bush Administration, in a concerted effort to undermine unions, has used union reporting regulations to impose costly burdens on unions and ordinary union members. Senator Kennedy said: “This report paints a disturbing picture of how the Bush Administration has politicized the Department of Labor. It’s unconscionable that laws meant to protect employees have been turned into tools for harassing them. The Department of Labor’s top priority should be the protection of workers—but by that test, the Office of Labor Management Standards has utterly failed.” ###
