Murray Criticizes Trump Administration for Proposing New Rules to Sabotage Health Care Amid Government Shutdown

Proposed changes would amount to a health care tax on families across the country

Nonpartisan analysis found the change would lead to higher premiums and less coverage for families across the country

Murray: “Even 27 days into the shutdown he caused, President Trump has somehow found time to further sabotage health care for patients, families, and women.”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement in response the Trump Administration’s announcement of the proposed annual Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for the 2020 health insurance marketplace—which included changes that the nonpartisan Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of the Actuary confirmed would lead to higher costs and less coverage for families across the country.

“Even 27 days into the shutdown he caused, President Trump has somehow found time to further sabotage health care for patients, families, and women —this time by proposing what would amount to a health care tax on patients and families across the country. President Trump is hurting families left and right and Democrats are going to keep holding him accountable.”
