Murray on HHS Secretary’s Day of Hearings on Trumpcare: Doubled Down on Sabotage, Higher Costs for Families

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on comments made by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price during the Senate Finance Committee hearing about the President Trump and Secretary Price’s proposed HHS budget. Price refused to commit whether the Administration would continue to make payments in the health care system and made false statements about Trumpcare’s plan to gut Medicaid, which would leave tens of millions of people without coverage.

“It’s appalling that Secretary Price not only doubled down on sabotaging the health care system by refusing to commit to continue payments that make health care more affordable for families, but also outright denied the facts about his Administration’s own plan to gut Medicaid and leave tens of millions of people without coverage. His comments today underscored just how damaging Trumpcare would be for families’ health and economic security—and showed just how far this Administration is willing to go to score political points and advance its extreme and damaging agenda.
