Murray Statement on President Obama’s Budget Proposals to Invest in Lifesaving Medical Research

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), the top Democrat on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement on investments in cancer research and NIH mandatory funding included in President Barack Obama’s FY17 budget proposal.

“When I talk to researchers and experts in my home state, they make clear that we are on the cusp of real breakthroughs in how we treat patients suffering from some of our most difficult to tackle illnesses, including cancer, which tragically impacts so many families and communities nationwide.  I want to do everything I can to help patients and families get the safe, effective cures and treatments they are waiting for, so I’m glad to see that President Obama has made investments in medical research a priority in this year’s budget proposal. I’m very hopeful Democrats and Republicans in Congress can work with the Administration to help patients and families by prioritizing sustained investments in medical research.”
