Murray Welcomes Smith, Jones to HELP Committee: “Senator Tina Smith And Senator Doug Jones Both Have Strong Records Of Standing Up For Working Families”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement today welcoming Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) and Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) as the newest members of the Senate HELP Committee.

“Senator Tina Smith and Senator Doug Jones both have strong records of standing up for working families, and I’m pleased to welcome them both to the HELP Committee. I’m proud of the work we did last year to fight back against the Trump Administration’s harmful policies and nominees and I am looking forward to continuing those efforts as well as working with anyone, on either side of the aisle, willing to work with me to make progress. We certainly have our work cut out for us, including working to lower health care costs for patients and families, addressing the opioid epidemic that is plaguing so many of our communities, solving the biggest problems in higher education, addressing our nation’s retirement crisis, and so much more. I look forward to working with Tina and Doug to find ways to build out the middle class and to improve the lives of patients, students, women, workers and families around the country.”
