WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) announced the confirmed witnesses for this week’s HELP hearing on issues in higher education. The witnesses include university presidents Dr. Michael Lindsay of Taylor University and Dr. Mark A. Brown of Tuskegee University.
Cassidy also invited Harvard University President Alan Garber, who declined the invitation to testify before the Committee.
“Rarely are HBCUs or religiously oriented universities mentioned in conversations about how to improve America’s higher education system. This needs to change because they have their own valuable stories to tell. I look forward to hearing from Taylor University and Tuskegee University,” said Dr. Cassidy.
“I invited Harvard to testify. It is my firm belief that every person and institution should have the right to make their case. It is universally known that Harvard’s medical research, funded in part by NIH, has made great contributions to making America healthy. At the same time, there appears to have been tolerance of antisemitism on Harvard’s campus. This would have been the chance for Harvard to emphasize its value as a research institution and to tell the committee and the country how it is addressing antisemitism,” continued Dr. Cassidy.
