WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, criticized the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for refusing to answer Republican questions about its promise to conduct a safety study of the chemical abortion drug and its approval of another generic, endangering the health and safety of mothers.
In October, Cassidy and 16 Republican senators requested information from FDA about why another generic of the dangerous abortion drug was approved. The senators also asked FDA about the status of its safety study and why it has failed to take concrete steps to reinstate commonsense measures to protect women.
“As chair of the HELP Committee and a strong pro-life conservative, FDA’s response to Congress is unacceptable. Republicans have been pressing FDA to provide answers on the status of its promised safety study of the chemical abortion drug and information about the second generic’s approval,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The American people deserve to know why HHS and FDA continue to ignore their responsibility to safeguard mothers and unborn children from this harmful drug.”
