ICYMI: Fox Business Joins Cassidy and Secretary Chavez-DeRemer on Tour of Louisiana Alligator Farm, Touts Republican Efforts to Empower Workers

WASHINGTON – Last week, Fox Business traveled with U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and Department of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to the Walls Alligator Farm in Springfield, LA. On the visit, Cassidy and Secretary Chavez-DeRemer touted pro-worker policies in President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill that are improving the lives of working Americans and their families.

Cassidy also discussed his new legislation that empowers independent workers to access workplace benefits like health care and retirement. This effort builds upon the One Big Beautiful Bill as part of Republicans’ pro-worker, pro-family, pro-patient agenda.

“Independent workers, like the ones at the Walls Alligator Farm, keep Louisiana’s unique economy moving,” said Dr. Cassidy. “That’s why I voted to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill and that’s why I’m trying to pass pro-worker legislation to increase workers’ access to benefits like health care and retirement.”

During their visit, Cassidy and Secretary Chavez-DeRemer toured the production facilities at Walls Alligator Farm, a fourth-generation business that went from one of the smallest alligator farms in Louisiana to one of the largest in the world. After, they ventured out on airboats to see alligator nests in the marshes.

President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill strengthens Louisiana’s economy by empowering family-owned businesses like the Walls Alligator Farm to hire and keep independent workers. Barry Wall spoke to Fox Business about the One Big Beautiful Bill’s positive impact on his workers and their families, like eliminating federal taxes on tips and overtime.

“This bill, I think it’s really going to help us – our workers,” said Wall. “If our guys bring more money home, you know what? Number one, they are happier to come to work, but two, it helps us keep them.”

Fox Business also highlighted Cassidy’s new legislative effort to modernize federal labor laws, establishing a safe harbor to allow companies like the Walls Farm to voluntarily provide benefits to their independent workers.

Jordan Pedeaux, an independent worker at Walls Alligator Farm, supports Cassidy’s bill.

“Being able to have both would be ideal, to be able to do my project-based work, work on my own schedule, but also have the benefit of those benefits from the company, be able to provide that to me," said Pedeaux.
