Alexander: New Labor Secretary “Can Now Begin Work to Create a Better Environment to Help More American Workers Succeed”

Senate confirms Alexander Acosta to be Secretary of Labor

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 27 – Senate labor committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today said that Alexander Acosta, confirmed by the Senate today as Labor Secretary, “can now begin his work to create a better environment to help more workers succeed in the rapidly changing workplace.”

“American workers are fortunate to now have a Secretary of Labor who understands the importance of a good-paying job and that harmful regulations from Washington have only made it harder to create, find, or keep good jobs,” said Alexander. “The son of Cuban immigrants, Mr. Acosta became the first in his family to go to college and from there has had an impressive career. With today’s vote, Mr. Acosta can begin working to help create the right environment for more workers to realize the American dream, and I look forward to partnering with him on that important task.”

Alexander chaired Mr. Acosta’s confirmation hearing on March 22 and the committee met on March 30 to vote on his nomination.
