Enzi Statement on Doc-Fix Vote Washington

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the SenateHealth, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today issued the followingstatement on Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Senator Debbie Stabenow’s, D-Mich.,“doc-fix” bill:

“I strongly support fixing reimbursement rates for doctors who treat Medicare patients, but we cannot bust the budget to pay for it. With an already record-high deficit, this bill woulddig us a quarter-trillion dollars deeper.

“The majority is trying to add a quarter-trillion dollars in Medicare spending to ournation’s deficit this week. Meanwhile, they’re working behind closed doors on a health carebill that will cut a half-trillion dollars from Medicare benefits to pay for new entitlementprograms. That is irresponsible. We need to fix Medicare’s problems, like physicianpayments, before anyone should even think about cutting more money from Medicare tocreate a new government entitlement program.”
