Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement regarding yesterday’s underground mine explosion at the Upper Big Branch South Coal Mine in Raleigh County, West Virginia:
"It is with deep sadness that I join others in offering our heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of those lost as a result of yesterday's explosion at the Massey Energy Mine in West Virginia.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all those who work at the mine, the community, and those who have been involved in the rescue and recovery operations. We will continue to pray for the safety of any miners who remain unaccounted for and all involved in this tragedy.
“We must continue to look at the safety conditions miners face every day and do all we can to prevent future accidents from occurring.”
