Murray Responds to Trump SCOTUS Nominee’s Call to End Roe v. Wade

SCOTUS nominee Judge Barrett: “It’s time to put an end to the barbaric legacy of Roe v. Wade”

Senator Murray: “Not if women and men across the county have anything to say about it.”

(Washington, D.C.) –  Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement in response to news that President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, signed onto a letter calling to “put an end to the barbaric legacy of Roe. V. Wade.”

“When it comes to barbaric legacies, I, like so many others, remember life before Roe v Wade. I am here to say we are not going back to the dark days when abortion was only available in other countries—for those who had the wealth to travel—or in back alleys where women received poor care and faced botched procedures. Where they lost their ability to have children. Where they died.

“Republicans have made perfectly clear they want to rush Judge Barrett onto the Supreme Court so she can dismantle the right to safe, legal abortion. Not on my watch and not if women and men across the county have anything to say about it. We are going to keep standing up, speaking out, and fighting tooth and nail to stop this nomination.”
