WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released a statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Dr. Susan Monarez to be Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) by a final vote of 51 to 47. The HELP Committee previously approved her nomination by a vote of 12 to 11.
“America needs a CDC Director who will reform the agency and work to restore public trust in health institutions,” said Dr. Cassidy. “With decades of proven experience as a public health official, Dr. Monarez is ready to take on this challenge and I look forward to working with her.”
