Senate HELP Committee Votes to Approve President Trump’s Education, Labor Nominees


WASHINGTON – Today, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted to advance eight of President Trump’s nominees at the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Under the leadership of HELP Chair Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), the Committee has voted to advance 21 Trump administration nominees.    

“These nominees are crucial to enacting President Trump’s pro-America agenda,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I appreciate my colleagues’ commitment to getting President Trump’s team in place.”

Specifically, the Committee approved the nomination of Jeremiah Workman for Assistant Secretary of Labor for DOL’s Veterans’ Employment and Training by a vote of 13-10. The Committee also approved the nomination of Daniel Aronowitz for Assistant Secretary of Labor for DOL’s Employee Benefits Security Administration by a vote of 14-9.     

The remaining nominees were advanced en bloc by a party-line vote of 12-11. All nominations will now move to the Senate floor for a final vote at a later date.   

The approved nominations include:   

  • Penny Schwinn to serve as Deputy Secretary of Education, Department of Education  
  • Kimberly Richey to serve as Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, Department of Education  
  • Daniel Aronowitz to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Employee Benefits Security Administration, Department of Labor  
  • David Keeling to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Labor  
  • Jonathan Berry to serve as Solicitor, Department of Labor  
  • Andrew Rogers to serve as Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division, Department of Labor  
  • Andrea Lucas to serve as a Member, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission   
  • Jeremiah Workman to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans’ Employment and Training, Department of Labor
